Compositions

Large scale inkjet photographic prints, 2023

The grand piano is a heavy and majestic structure, translating hand movement into a mellow sound. Like a mechanical clock, it moves its parts repetitively. The clang of hammers striking the strings creates a gentle vibration that becomes a transient experience.

When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a pianist. I was told my hands didn’t have the required physical characteristics. This rejection did not silence my creative voice; instead it redirected my artistic expression from the auditory to the visual. Still, I bonded with this instrument and always had the piano in my vicinity. I became fascinated with its internal parts that, when activated, originate strong emotions, thoughts, and memories as if the instrument was a living entity. In Compositions series, I use the motif of hands, layering in-camera multiple exposures to create a sense of movement and depth capturing the ghostly echoes of dreams and aspirations.
